Colorado: A trip to Colorado over spring break is one of the best times to go skiing! There is still plenty of snow on the mountains, while the temperatures start rising and the sun is shining. The spring is an off time for skiing and is considered the “late-off season” from mid-March to May. There are plenty of different ski resorts all over Colorado with great skiing. Check Steamboat Springs for something more family-friendly, Breckenridge if you’re wanting to go snowmobiling, or Vail for a more luxurious ski trip.
Las Vegas, Nevada:
This destination might not be your first thought for a spring break trip, but it’s the perfect location because there is something for everyone to do! Spring break is a great time to visit, because it’s not too hot yet, but warm enough for the hotel pools to open and the pool parties to start. If you happen to be visiting during St. Patrick’s Day or March Madness, make sure to pack some green clothes and your favorite jersey! Maybe partying and gambling aren’t your thing though. Don’t worry there are endless attractions in Vegas to check out, including museums, shopping, gourmet dining, live shows, haunted tours, thrill rides, zip lining, etc. Also, if you’re wanting to visit the Grand Canyon or the Hoover Dam, day tours from Vegas with guides are available.
Washington D.C.: Wanting to see the iconic cherry blossoms in Washington D.C.? Spring break is the perfect time to go! The annual Cherry Blossom Festival occurs between March 20th to April 16th and celebrates the longstanding friendship between Japan and The United States. Take a stroll around Tidal Basin for some gorgeous views of the blossoms, watch live music performances, attend the Pink Tie Party, and stop by the Blossom Kite Festival! There are plenty of things to do at the Cherry Blossom Festival, but Washington D.C. is also filled with several other attractions. The Smithsonian museums are a staple on your trip, as well as all of the historic monuments like the Lincoln Memorial, the National Mall, and the Washington Monument. Lastly, check out the historic Georgetown for some dining and shopping in the beautiful spring weather!
New Orleans, Louisiana:
Another fun destination for spring break that people don’t usually think about is New Orleans. In April, both the Jazz Fest and the French Quarter Festival start, and highlight local food, music, art, and culture. Crawfish season starts in March and is definitely the best time to order, even though they are available year-round. St. Patrick’s Day celebrations are also huge in New Orleans, so if you happen to be visiting during this time, expect a lot of parades, live music, and green beer! If you’re interested in haunted locations, New Orleans is the perfect place for you, because it is filled with all kinds of strange and occult attractions. Why not take a haunted night tour or visit the famous above-ground cemeteries?
Austin, Texas: There is a focus on arts and culture in Austin, so expect to see a lot of attractions and events that reflect this. SXSW starts at the beginning of March and showcases tech, film, music, education, and culture. The ABC Zilker Kite Festival happens in April, is free to attend, and has a variety of different activities for kids and adults alike. If you’re looking to do some outdoor activities, Lady Bird Lake is a great spot to visit. The lake is located near downtown Austin, offers serene views of the lake, and provides visitors with kayak and paddle board rentals. If boating isn’t your thing, hiking, biking and even zip-lining can also be found. Lastly, you can’t miss out on all of the food truck parks, like East Side Food Park or The Picnic Food Trailer Park. Grab a bite to eat from local eateries that have disbanded the idea of a traditional restaurant setting. It’s a unique experience that anyone visiting Austin has to check out!
