The White Lotus Filming Locations to Inspire Your Next Trip

The critically acclaimed HBO Max series "The White Lotus" has captivated audiences not only with its sharp social satire and compelling characters but also with its stunning filming locations. Each season transports viewers to a different exotic paradise, showcasing some of the world's most luxurious resorts against breathtaking natural backdrops. If you've found yourself daydreaming about visiting these picturesque destinations, you're not alone. Let's explore the magnificent filming locations from all three seasons and how you can experience the White Lotus magic for yourself.

Season 1: Hawaii

The first season of The White Lotus introduced viewers to the fictional White Lotus resort, located at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea.  This five-star luxury property served as the primary filming location, with its elegant ocean-facing suites, immaculate pools, and pristine beaches featured throughout the season. The resort has three swimming pools, including an adults-only infinity pool that offers spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. Guests can indulge in world-class dining at restaurants like Spago and Ferraro's, which were featured in several scenes from the show.

Popular Experiences with The Four Seasons

The Four Seasons offers a wealth of authentic Hawaiian adventures that allow guests to experience Maui's natural beauty and cultural richness. Here are just a few experiences you can do with the Four Seasons in or around the resort for an additional cost:

  • Molokini Crater Snorkel: “Molokini Crater is a crescent shaped caldera off the shores of Maui known for great snorkelling. Enjoy this snorkel tour aboard a luxury catamaran with shaded cabin and deck areas.”

  • Traditional Luau: “Take the historical journey of the Polynesian ancestors that arrived at Maui and settled in the land division. Gain insight into Hawaiian values through interactive storytelling paired with traditional Hawaiian dishes and handcrafted cocktails.”

  • Private Catamaran Sailings: “On this four-hour snorkel, get ready to dive into Maui's warm waters for an uncrowded, close-up view of our reef and the colourful fish that inhabit these waters. After your snorkel, enjoy a delicious barbecue chicken lunch, premium bar drinks and breathtaking views of the sprawling West Maui Mountains.”

Alternatives to the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea

Let’s face it, The Four Season’s is a beautiful property, but it can be expensive. Maybe you want to experience that White Lotus feel without spending as much money. Here are a few alternatives that get the same great views of Maui, but at a lower rate.

Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort - A stylish, slightly less expensive luxury option in the same area as the Four Seasons. Offers a more modern aesthetic with multiple cascading infinity pools and direct beach access to the same Wailea beaches.

Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa - More budget-friendly while still located in the luxurious Wailea area with similar ocean views. They also offer a lot of the same experiences that the Four Season’s does, including things like luaus, snorkeling, specialty spa treatments and even helicopter tours.

Norwegian Cruise Line Hawaii Itineraries - While it’s definitely not the same experience as staying at the Four Seasons or even at one of the hotels listed above, cruising through Hawaii is a great way to see more of the islands. With stops to Oahu, Kauai, Maui and more, this is the perfect opportunity to get a taste of all Hawaii has to offer.

Season 2: Italy

Season 2 took viewers to the sun-drenched shores of Sicily, with the breathtaking San Domenico Palace, Taormina, A Four Seasons Hotel serving as the primary filming location. This luxury hotel, converted from a 14th-century Sicilian convent, is located on top of a rocky point overlooking the Ionian Sea. The property's ancient, lush gardens, and panoramic terraces with views of Mount Etna created the perfect backdrop for the season's intrigue and drama. The infinity pool overlooking the sea featured prominently in many scenes, as did the elegant restaurant spaces such as Anciovi and Bar & Chiostro.

Alternatives to San Domenico Palace, Taormina

Again, staying at a location as luxurious as the Four Seasons comes with a hefty price tag. If you’re looking to travel to Sicily and live out your White Lotus dreams without having to spend an arm and a leg, here are some more alternatives.

Monaci delle Terre Nere: Located on the slopes of Mount Etna, and looking out onto the Ionian Sea, this boutique hotel is a perfect alternative if you’re looking for the same location of the show. Season 3: Thailand

The third season of The White Lotus expanded its horizons to Thailand, primarily filming at the Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui and Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai. These two distinct properties showcase different facets of Thailand's beauty: the tropical beach paradise of Koh Samui and the lush, mountainous landscapes around Chiang Mai. The Koh Samui property features luxurious villas with private pools, palm tree-covered beaches, and stunning Gulf of Thailand views. Meanwhile, the Chiang Mai resort offers a serene retreat surrounded by terraced rice fields and mountains, with architecture inspired by traditional Thai design.

Dark Sky Week is held every year during the week of the new moon in April, and in 2025, it will be held from April 21-28. This week was created to see the true beauty of the night sky by turning off all unnecessary lights worldwide and raising awareness about light pollution. Dark Sky Week was created by highschooler Jennifer Barlow back in 2003, and is recognized by the International Dark-Sky Association, the American Astronomical Society, the Astronomical League, and Sky & Telescope. Barlow wanted to create this week of observance, because she thought it was important to preserve the way that our ancestors saw the night sky and to get rid of any unnecessary lighting that is preventing us from having the same experience.
