Staff Spotlight: Motor Coaching 101

Motor coach tours are a great option when you want an easy-going, yet exciting, sightseeing vacation. You may think, “What even is motor coaching?” or have questions before you want to book a motor coach tour. Today Brentwood Travel’s President & CEO, Stephanie Turner, and Executive Vice-President, Stacey Acree, are here to discuss why they love guided motor coach tours and answer some frequently asked questions about motor coach tours!

What is Motor Coaching?

Motor coaching is a land travel style that takes you from destination to destination via a motor coach bus. They often range from small groups to larger groups, anywhere from 12 to around 45 or more people. These tours include a knowledgeable tour guide who will be your leader during your travels, whether taking you on tours of the destination's highlights or giving you recommendations of things to do during your free time. This is a great vacation option if you are looking for a unique way to see amazing destinations all over the world!

The Benefits of a Guided Motor Coach Tour

Your tour guide/escort: A great benefit of motor coach tours is the wonderful travel expert who leads your trip and teaches you all about the destinations you visit. They are very familiar with the areas and can give you great suggestions of things to do during your free time.

Guaranteed transportation: You do not have to worry about planning out transportation from city to city during your trip. No need for rental cars or rideshare services! You get to sit back and take in the views as you travel from destination to destination, which the person who must drive often misses out on while staying safe on the roads during road trips. On a motor coach everyone sits in a comfortable seat and listens to the guide tell you what is going on around you, often with interesting little stories that pique your interest.

New friendships: These tours are taken with either a large or small group of people who, in any other circumstances, may never cross paths in life. Travel truly bonds people together, so many times you will leave your trip with new relationships with your tour guide and fellow travelers from all around the world!

VIP experiences: Along with your amazing tour guide, many tours get VIP access to popular tourist attractions with skip-the-line passes, so you can spend more time exploring instead of standing in line. You also receive headphones you can wear to hear your tour guide explain what you are seeing even if you aren’t right next to them. Many tour operators even have phone apps with GPS maps you can use even if you don’t have wi-fi when you are out and about!

Stephanie and Stacey's Favorite Trips

Stephanie has taken a wide variety of guided motor coach tours over the years and every single one of them was fantastic! Each tour was a very different experience, from the destinations to the size of the group to the number of inclusions. Stephanie loves it when your travel group is smaller and would recommend a small group to those wanting to take a tour in the future! These are some of the destinations Stephanie has visited via motor coach:

  • London and the Countryside
  • The British Isles (England, Scotland and Wales)
  • London, Paris, Germany, Switzerland
  • Italy from top to bottom (Lake Como, Venice, Florence, Rome, Sorrento, and other smaller Italian towns in between)
  • Germany, Austria, Switzerland
  • Israel
  • Thailand (Bangkok, Chaing Mai, Chaing Rai, and Mae Hong Song)
  • Australia and New Zealand
  • India (Jaipur, Agra and New Delhi)

Stacey’s favorite trip was a European tour where she explored Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and France. She loved getting to visit all the highlights in these countries wrapped up in one trip! The highlight of that trip was taking a gondola ride to the top of a mountain and visiting an ice castle in the Swiss Alps. During that trip, she was able to see all the top tourist attractions in these areas, but this special experience was a surprise that made the trip even better than she could have imagined!

Motor Coaching FAQs

What destinations can you visit via motor coach?

You can visit almost any destination around the world by motor coach! You can visit major cities and their highlights, such as London, Paris, or Rome, or you can take a single country tour that focuses on the hidden gems and off-the-beaten-path destinations of that area. Some of the most popular regions for motor coach tours include The United States, Europe, Australia, and Canada.

Do you have a jam-packed schedule for your entire trip?

Yes and no, it depends on the type of tour you choose. There are leisurely tours that overnight in one place the entire time with various day trips throughout your stay. There are trips that move around, but you spend multiple nights in most places that have a combination of scheduled tours as well as scheduled free time to explore the destination on your own. There are also trips that are packed with tours and activities, so you do not miss anything while you are there. When you work with your Brentwood Travel Consultant, they will help find the best tour style for you!

Do I have to stay with the group the entire time?

Stephanie’s rule of thumb is that you can do whatever you would like in each destination as long as you are packed and ready to leave when the motor coach departs for the next destination! With any tour option you choose, there is always free time built into your vacation with optional excursions. We can help guide you to see what is included in the tours and what things you might want to see or do on your own.

Would you recommend a motor coach tour to your clients?

Absolutely! Stephanie and Stacey both agree that motor coach tours are a great vacation option. Stephanie has been on at least 20 different motor coach tours and while each one has been different, they were all fantastic! She was able to see the areas in ways that she might have not been able to on her own. Stacey feels that motor coach tours are one of the best values for your money because they provide such an amazing experience!
