Staff Spotlight: Cunard Cruise to the Greek Isles

In August, we sailed with Cunard to the Greek Isles and visited many amazing places throughout our cruise. Our ship, Queen Victoria, was beautiful! The public areas and our cabin was lovely. The bathrooms had marble counters and the closets were huge!

We were given a daily schedule of activities for sea days, which included tennis, shuffleboard tournaments, Nordic walking, and a few other fun options for exercise classes - even "chair aerobics!" We toured the enormous spa and spent a bit of time chatting with the trainers. They were so excited and friendly - very eager to help!

The entertainment was excellent! The singers and dancers were fabulous, and so fast! They had spectacular harpists and piano players as well. They offered formal nights such as an “Ascott Ball” and decorated the whole ship to fit the theme. We enjoyed afternoon tea with lots of options of tea and little cookies and cakes, and there were opportunities to meet with the ship’s captain.

The food was spectacular. There were a lot of options and a very attentive sommelier. Overall, we thought that the staff and service were wonderful.

The first port we stopped at was Kotor, and we chose a bus tour as our excursion. The city is walled – it’s quite a sight! We drove along the winding roads of the town and did a lot of sightseeing. We stopped for a snack to try the city’s famous hams and cheeses and toured the Maritime Museum. Kotor was a last-minute change to our itinerary, and it was a great addition to our cruise.

In Rhodes, we took a 7-hour private tour and we saw countless sights and new cities. Our tour guide was early, and was able to drive us into the Palace of the Kings, which is not allowed at all after 9am. We got to see this amazing, thousand-year-old building with only three people inside.

One of the coolest things about having a private tour guide was that he adapted the tour based on what we liked. Our guide saw me taking a lot of pictures of the stray cats that were hanging around, and he added a stop at a local cat house (sort of like a humane society) so that we could see more kitties. It is so worth it to have a private guide for at least one stop on a cruise because the experience will be so much more memorable.

We stopped into an amazing church and said a few prayers and lit candles. They also have amazing beaches in Rhodes that we spent some time enjoying.

We spent a post-cruise night at the Grande Bretagne in Athens, and it was amazing. They have wonderful food and fresh juice, and we were so well taken care of by the staff for our whole stay. The concierge even went to the pharmacy for a "Mystery Product" for Ashley's horrible sunburn, and she says it was the best burn cream she's ever used.

Athens is a fascinating city. If you’re really into art and history, you will love Athens! We took the hop-on-hop-off tour and it was definitely worth it.
