  • What is REAL ID?

The REAL ID Act of 2005 is a federal law that established minimum security standards for state-issued identification to enhance fraud protection and security. Missouri implemented its REAL ID program in 2019. Starting May 7, 2025, all U.S. residents will need to present either a REAL ID-compliant driver license/ID card or another Transportation Security Administration-accepted form of identification to board domestic flights.

  • Do I Need a Missouri REAL ID to Travel?

  • Timeline for REAL ID Implementation

Starting May 7, 2025, all individuals over the age of 18 residing in any U.S. state or territory must show either a REAL ID-compliant driver license or ID card, or another Transportation Security Administration-approved form of identification to board all domestic flights.

IMPORTANT: Plan ahead for your REAL ID application. Processing and mailing typically takes 10-15 days. If you need to fly on or shortly after May 7, 2025, we recommend applying no later than April 1, 2025. Waiting until late April will likely result in not having your REAL ID-compliant license or ID card in time for travel.
